Caliston Tutorials

Forword:

Many years ago when I started classes in Shoshin Ryu (a form of Jujitsu) my instructor gave me a philosophy about martial arts training that changed the way I looked all martial sports since that time. What she said was: "…everyone in this room are my toys. If I break my toys I can't play with them anymore….". Now there was a lot more to that lecture dealing with training as a game so that when a real situation occurred you didn't tense up in the "Fight or Flight mode" like most do, but that's a different story all together.
I have chosen to make that statement the motto for how and why I build Amt-tech the way I do. I considered everyone I hit with my weapons as my toys. If I break them because my weapons are unsafe, not only do I feel like crap but I can't play with them anymore (for whatever period of time it takes them to recover).
Take care of your toys boys and girls, and they will take care of you.

PreQualification:

Let me say that not all the info provided in these pages were designed or delevopled by myself alone. And though I may have developed some methods/tech independently I cannot claim sole ownership of any of the following. As with all technology Amtgard weapon making will continue to grow until the material covered here is considered as obsolete as the weapon making guide in the 6.0 rule book was when I started this project. Please, if you are new to Amtgard, no matter what it says do not follow the 6.0 rulebook guidelines, I have yet to see a newbie make a legal weapon from following those guidelines! It can be done, but sheesh! Ugly! The 7.0 book is slightly better, but still.
